Although I miss cycling to work, catching the train from Brooklyn to the office means that I’m get to enjoy the benefits of commuting on public transport. I get to see people in all their technicolour; with iced coffees, copies of the Wall Street Journal and even the odd pair of Jordans that remind me of why I love trainers so much. I also get to listen to music so I’m no longer just hoarding or waiting for a spare moment at the weekend. But mostly, I’m grateful that I’ve rediscovered a heathy appetite for reading.
I’m sad to say that on my way back from Vanessa’s Dumpling, I’ve just finished Edmund de Waal’s truly awesome The Hare with Amber Eyes. I was genuinely gripped by the dedication de Waal displays throughout the book; dedication both to his family and the Netsuke that have accompanied some of them through their undulating history.
Reading this has made me realise that committing events to record is an act of respect and without knowing it when I started, this tumblr owes much to de Waal and his beautiful book.
Massive shout out to @kathughes84 who kindly lent me the book… which I then ran off to another country with…
